The “Will of God” For Me (You)

The “Will of God” For Me (You)

As we say we seek to know the Lord and His will in our lives, I wonder if we have not been “led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”[1] For the “will of God” is not a hidden thing. It is not as if God, that is the one true God, delights to withhold valuable gems and the jewels of life from His children. Could it be that many, although maybe well meaning yet so blinded by the self-heart and emotional lies, have really left their first love? Have I myself done so?

Truly “fallow ground” is spreading amidst “professors”[2] as a drought in the desert mid-summer. Many boast out of the depths of their pride, and do so about everything under the sun, and yet quickly attach “Christian tag words” as to somehow justify their waywardness and ease their guilty conscience. Let me ask, do you really want to know the “will of God?” His will, not your will with His blessing?

But let me first say again my friend, the “will of God” is not hidden. Let us drink deeply, ponder and apply God’s will to the Thessalonians. Here is a church that was birthed “in much affliction”[3] and received “with the joy of the Holy Spirit.” For if the “will of God” for those so “afflicted” is to be true and so clear, then shall it not be for us as well? Remembering that “God does not change,”[4]

we must therefore apply the Scriptures deep unto ourselves as well. Let us look at the “will of God” for us. Below are a few verses to drink deeply. I am not going to comment on them, but rather simply let them speak for themselves.

Respect & Esteem

“We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work.” 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13a

Peace

“Be at peace among yourselves.” 1 Thess. 5:13b

Admonish/Encourage/Help/Patient

“And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.” 1 Thess. 5:14

No Evil/Do Good

“See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.” 1 Thess. 5:15

Rejoice

“Rejoice always…” 1 Thess. 5:16

Pray

“…pray without ceasing…” 1 Thess. 5:17

Give Thanks

“…give thanks in all circumstances.” 1 Thess. 5:18a

Will of God (context)

“for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess. 5:18b

Quench Not / Despise Not

“Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies…” 1 Thess. 5:19-20

Test / Hold Fast

“…but test everything; hold fast what is good.” 1 Thess. 5:21

Abstain

“Abstain from every form of evil.” 1 Thess. 5:22

Blessings all!
